Bryan Chaffee, Principal – Florida, New Jersey, New York, Midwest

Mr. Chaffee has spent over twenty years working in managed healthcare, delivery system development and management, and start-up operations.  He pioneered HMO development in the early 1980’s, built Florida’s first workers’ compensation managed care networks, and has been a principal or founder in practice management, network management and managed care initiatives.  In the early 1980’s, when managed healthcare was enjoying widespread introduction in the group health arena, Bryan developed new staff model HMO’s for HealthAmerica Corporation, then the nation’s largest HMO company with operations in 24 states and nearly half a million prepaid members.  Bryan helped build new HMOs in Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Chicago, Hampton Roads, Little Rock, New Orleans, and Omaha.

Since 1998, Bryan has served as the President of Healthscape, Inc., a hospital advocacy consultancy based in Tampa, FL which is primarily engaged in improving hospitals’ managed care portfolios. Healthscape also provides developmental services for physicians newly recruited by client hospitals.
Healthscape has standing hospital clients and has been a frequent contributor to the managed care portion of hospital turn-arounds for FTI-Cambio, the nation’s premier hospital turn-around specialist.

Michele Bergeron, Senior Associate – Mid-Atlantic, Southern States

Michele Bergeron provides unique experience and expertise to clients of with her background working for both the provider community and the third party payer industry. She has developed IPA networks, a Physician Hospital Organization, a global risk-bearing multi-specialty physician network and a network of Admitting Physicians. She has led a team of consultants in the re-contracting efforts of a multi-state hospital network for a large national third party payer. She has provided managed care strategy, contracting and network development for a national vascular access center provider as well as a national retail convenience care center organization. Other clients include hospitals and hospital management companies.

Michele's background includes roles of Director of Managed Care for both Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida and Morton Plant Mease Healthcare in Clearwater, Florida. She was Vice President of Managed Care for MedPartners (formerly Caremark) and was Vice President of Managed Care for Gambro Healthcare, a national dialysis provider. Her third party payer experience includes several years with CIGNA where she held positions of Director of Marketing in Arizona and Vice President and General Manager for the Orlando staff model operations.

Through Healthscape, Michele provides hospital managed care consulting and negotiations, strategic planning, network development, contracting and negotiations activities, managed care tools and staff education. She is strong at building solid relationships between the payer community and providers and has an excellent track record of achieving the goals of her clients.

Shannon Yarrow, Senior Associate – Western States

Shannon brings the experience of over 14 years of managed care contracting to the Healthscape team.  After finishing her Masters in Health Administration and MBA, Shannon started negotiating hospital and physician IPA agreements for Tufts Health Plan in Waltham Massachusetts as a network contract manager.  Tufts Health Plan continues to be one of the highest rated healthplans in the country today.

Shannon left Boston in 1998, joined Pacificare of Arizona, and quickly became the Director for Hospital and provider contracting for the Phoenix market.  Her responsibilities included contracting with hospitals, physicians and physician IPAs and extended into contracting fee-for-service and capitated reimbursement arrangements with ancillary providers.  With a strong focus on the Medicare Advantage products and programs, Shannon built a solid understanding of the Medicare Advantage network management, benefit designs, and how to optimize network assets to achieve financial success.

In 2001, Shannon joined CIGNA Healthcare of Arizona as the AVP for Network Management.  Under her leadership, CIGNA staff contracted and managed a full statewide network of hospitals, physicians and all ancillary services needed for 600,000 commercial members.  She also managed the provider networks for Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. Shannon continued to work for CIGNA upon moving to Jackson Hole, accepting a new national role working with the largest national ancillary contracts held by CIGNA Healthcare out of Connecticut. 
In 2005, Shannon moved with her family to Palm Beach Florida, and to the opposite side of the negotiation table.  She joined Tenet Health System in Florida and initially represented their 15 hospitals in South Florida in their relationships with payors in Florida.  She was promoted to AVP, National Contracting and assigned to negotiate on behalf of all Tenet Facilities nationally (60+) with some of the largest healthplans in the country. 

Upon moving back to Jackson Hole in February 2007, Shannon worked briefly for Beech Street PPO network.  This short experience gave her a significant insight into the PPO business.   In March 2008, Shannon decided that it was finally time to use her years of experience and knowledge of payor/provider contracting and start consulting with hospital systems, physician organizations, ancillary providers and emerging healthplans.   Shannon now has a strong portfolio of clients and is eager to bring her knowledge, negotiation, and financial skills to help additional organizations negotiate to optimize their financial results.
